About this event

The 2020 27 for Freedom took place Saturday, 8 February 2020 from 06:30, at Drakenstein Correctional Facility in Paarl, Western Cape, South Africa. Distances included a 27km, 10km and 5km races.

February 8th, 2020 marks the 30th anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s historic release from Victor Verster Prison (now the Drakenstein Correctional Facility) and the walk to Freedom after 27 years of incarceration. To commemorate the event, the Drakenstein Correctional Services and the Cape Winelands District Municipality will host the 11th 27 for Freedom Race day at the Drakenstein
